About SilverFoxGems
It started with a ring. I was 6, maybe 7 years old and my mother handed me an old ring of hers. It wasn't anything big or flashy, but it was my first piece of a "real" jewelry. It was a yellow gold band with 5 small green emeralds with even tinier diamonds spaced between them. I must have spent hours of my life just staring at how perfect those emeralds were. How inconceivably green and opaque. They were the perfect shade of green, not too light as to be lime colored but not so dark as to be forest green. They were a true emerald color. I was a science-loving nerdy kid when I was young. I spent hours glued to the TV watching volcanoes erupt and dinosaurs stomp around, so it was no surprise that I viewed these stones as proof of the awesome power of the earth to produce something gorgeous. I must have worn that ring everyday for years, until I got older and realized that it probably didn't go with every outfit (a moment of revelation that I think everyone has!) But I kept it close. Life gets busy when you grow up. I graduated high school and immediately fell into college to study biology and then later criminology and Arabic, but in my spare hours I voraciously looked up stones on the the wifi in the cafeteria. I was entranced by the blue flashes in labradorite and moonstone, the many shades of sapphire that I would have never guessed even existed, and the small "hairs" of pyrite that make up the rutiles in gold-rutilated quartz. I thought about ordering a few just to have, but a part time job and full time school didn't allow for it. I shelved the idea. Three years in I had to quit for a medical condition that made it all but impossible to even go to school, much less get my degrees. I was crushed and heartbroken, and even though I had a full-time desk job, I felt hopeless, like all of my endless opportunities had dried up. With each year that passed, the liklihood of making it back to campus grew ever more distant, and I settled into the routine of working, sleeping, eating, working, on and on. It wasn't all bad, but I yearned to do something that made use of my creativity and gave me an outlet for all the interests that can't be contained in a cubicle. So one day, I decided to stop talking and start doing. I didn't know anything about making jewelry. I wasn't interested in the classes taught at the local craft stores, or the books with terms I didn't understand. I just wanted to get my hands on some wire and stones. Maybe it was more than a little hard-headed but I taught myself a great deal and after throwing away who knows how much in wasted and destroyed materials, I had my first wearable piece. Silver Fox Gems was born out a desire to let out that creativity and a need to get away from my life in the cubicle. It combines my love of gemstones with a timeless sense of style and ease. These are beautiful earrings. I love the combination you have chosen of stones and gold to create longlasting art flowers. Glad you left the “cubicle” and followed your passion.
Hi Karen!
Thank you very much for your compliment! I’m pretty happy about leaving the cubicle too. These are one of my favorites, for sure. I was looking to do something bright to contrast the dark colors of the “petals.”
